Project Description
The Phoebus Waterfront Park Living Shoreline Restoration project is underway! During the next 3 weeks, volunteers in the greater Phoebus neighborhood will partner with the amazing City of Hampton Public Works to restore the current waterfront with a functioning, living shoreline that will fully protect the area against erosion for years to come and provide a resilient habitat for native plants and animals. If you visit the park, use caution and be aware it is an active construction site. Water access has been changed. We will be:
- Removing old foundation/debris from the shoreline
- Adding several tons of sand for live plants to take root (most likely the week of September 12-16)
- Adding rip rap to the existing sill to bring it back up to grade
- Planting 1000 plugs of salt-marsh cordgrass in late September, leaving a path for future kayakers to access the break in the sill
- Installing coir logs to mitigate stormwater runoff and goose netting to protect young plants
